The <a class=\"xNiwzWHrbebvVdTPhrqFFMLPZAeEoaSrfNgM \" tabindex=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.deloitte.com\/content\/dam\/assets-shared\/docs\/campaigns\/2025\/2025-genz-millennial-survey.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-test-app-aware-link=\"\">majority of Millennial (92%) and Gen Z (89%) professionals<\/a> continue to say a sense of purpose is critical to their job satisfaction and well-being, and that they wouldn\u2019t work for an employer whose values don\u2019t align with their own.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember62\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">And yet, I\u2019ve seen speed replace discernment. Offers are extended quickly. Teams are moved quickly. Decisions are compressed. Culture is shoved under the rug.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember63\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">Whether you\u2019re deliberate about it or not, every business has a culture. That is, shared values and behaviors that shape how employees interact and work together within the organization. The challenge is determining whether a culture is your \u201cvibe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember64\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">And that vibe just may equate to your longevity with the company. Those who feel connected to their organization\u2019s culture are <a class=\"xNiwzWHrbebvVdTPhrqFFMLPZAeEoaSrfNgM \" tabindex=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gallup.com\/471521\/indicator-organizational-culture.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-test-app-aware-link=\"\">47% less likely <\/a>to look for another job.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember65\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">If you\u2019re considering a move within insurance \u2014\u00a0or even outside of the industry \u2014 here\u2019s a proven culture evaluation process to take:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Look in the mirror. \ud83e\ude9e<\/strong><\/p>\n<p id=\"ember67\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">Before you evaluate a company\u2019s culture, you have to understand your own.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember68\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">What matters to you? What\u2019s your \u201chappiness at work\u201d equation? Do you value connection? Growth? Stability? Autonomy? Financial performance? Mission-driven leadership?<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember69\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">We tend to skip this <a class=\"xNiwzWHrbebvVdTPhrqFFMLPZAeEoaSrfNgM \" tabindex=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/pulse\/my-foundational-5-how-showing-up-yourself-helps-you-show-julie-turpin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-test-app-aware-link=\"\">internal work<\/a>. <em>But when you lack internal alignment, external noise sets your direction. <\/em>Clarity of your values is what allows you to recognize alignment or misalignment when you see it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Look for consistency. \u267b\ufe0f<\/strong><\/p>\n<p id=\"ember71\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">Culture isn\u2019t what\u2019s written on the website or job posting. It\u2019s what shows up repeatedly in real life \u2014\u00a0from leaders and teammates.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember72\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">If you\u2019re interviewing for a role, make sure you meet people at their level. Listen for alignment in the answers of leaders, would-be peers and direct reports.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember73\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">When messaging is consistent across levels, that\u2019s usually the sign of a strong intentional culture. If it\u2019s not, that\u2019s culture too.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Physically be there. \ud83e\uddd1\ud83c\udffd\ud83d\udcbb<\/strong><\/p>\n<p id=\"ember75\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">For jobs where in-person presence is a part of the culture, make sure you have walked into the office and felt the environment.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember76\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">Zoom can mask culture. It gives you one person\u2019s perspective. But when you show up in person, you see how people interact, how they help\/don\u2019t help each other, whether <a class=\"xNiwzWHrbebvVdTPhrqFFMLPZAeEoaSrfNgM \" tabindex=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/feed\/update\/urn:li:activity:7381689859423248384\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-test-app-aware-link=\"\">leadership is accessible<\/a> and how the energy feels.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember77\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">It\u2019s a vibe check. Culture is the thing you can\u2019t touch, but you can absolutely feel. And will permeate every minute of your working day.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ask better questions. \ud83d\ude4b\ud83c\udffb<\/strong><\/p>\n<p id=\"ember79\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">Culture doesn\u2019t live in the job description. You have to surface it.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember80\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">Ask:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Can you share a recent decision that reflects the company\u2019s values?<\/li>\n<li>What behaviors are rewarded here? What isn\u2019t tolerated?<\/li>\n<li>How does the organization handle conflict?<\/li>\n<li>How comfortable do people feel pushing back?<\/li>\n<li>How are promotions decided?<\/li>\n<li>How does leadership communicate performance?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p id=\"ember82\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">Also, look outside the interview. Read their annual report. Listen to an analyst call. Watch what leaders write and say publicly here on LinkedIn. Companies \u2014\u00a0and C-suite leaders \u2014\u00a0are telling you who they are, if you\u2019re paying attention.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember83\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\"><strong>And then, always come back to <\/strong><a class=\"xNiwzWHrbebvVdTPhrqFFMLPZAeEoaSrfNgM \" tabindex=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/pulse\/remix-26-letting-go-control-embracing-your-intuition-julie-turpin-kwure\/?trackingId=uQ%2B5hHmvQWmsejhKAYxmmA%3D%3D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-test-app-aware-link=\"\"><strong>intuition<\/strong><\/a><strong>. \ud83d\udcad<\/strong><\/p>\n<p id=\"ember84\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">After the research and conversations, take time to reflect. Does this feel right? Do you connect with the mission? Do you see yourself growing here?<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember85\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">You can gather all the facts in the world, but eventually, you have to pull it all together and ask yourself whether it aligns with you and your mission.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember86\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">During Insurance Careers Month and beyond, be curious and intentional. Don\u2019t just chase the offer or blindly follow the team. Don\u2019t assume alignment because you\u2019ve had it in previous roles.
