EBSA Extends Grace Period for Existing 5500 Filing Signers to Complete Login.gov Registration

On Monday, August 21, 2023, the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) announced that they will extend the eight-month grace period for existing EFAST2 users to obtain new credentials through login.gov until December 31, 2023. Initially, the deadline to create new login.gov accounts and link EFAST2 accounts to this portal was September 1, 2023, for users with accounts established before January 1, 2023. See our original article, DOL Announces 5500 Process Changes Beginning in 2023.

New users registering for an EFAST2 User ID and PIN were required to register for both accounts beginning in January 2023. The process is described in detail in a Brown & Brown Creating an EFAST2 User Account guide that can be shared with filing signers who need guidance on the registration process.

Note that individuals who are e-signing 5500s that were prepared using approved third-party software will not be required to log into the EFAST2 or login.gov portals other than to obtain a user ID and PIN needed to electronically sign Form 5500.
