SUMMARY:Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and Health Benefit Plans
DESCRIPTION:The August event has passed. View the recording here. \nClick here to see all upcoming events. \n\nSince 1996\, employers subject to the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) have been required to provide job-protected leaves of absence to covered workers. Workers’ rights under FMLA also include health care benefits protections. Final regulations published by the United States Department of Labor (DOL) in February 2013 expanded certain provisions of the FMLA. Although many employers understand the job protection aspect of FMLA\, protecting and maintaining employee health care benefits during FMLA leave can be just as\, if not more\, challenging. During this one-hour refresher\, the Regulatory and Legislative Strategy Team will be partnering with Brown & Brown’s Absence Consulting team to review and answer commonly asked questions\, such as: \n\nWhat employers are subject to FMLA?\nWhat employees are eligible for FMLA?\nUnder what circumstances can employees take job-protected FMLA leave?\nWhat are the job and health care benefit protections provided under FMLA?\nHow does job-protected leave affect welfare benefits other than health care?\nWhat steps can be taken to help preserve benefit protections during and after an FMLA leave?

SUMMARY:Rules Related to Health Savings Accounts (HSAs)
DESCRIPTION:High-Deductible Health Plans (HDHPs) and Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) have long been considered important components of employers’ overall health and welfare benefit programs. Employers may choose to offer HDHPs and related HSAs under their benefit plans due to the reduced costs of HDHPs and increased adoption of individually owned HSAs by employees. Employees may also benefit from HSAs due to their tax-favored status under the Internal Revenue Code. Although HSAs offer significant advantages\, these benefits also come with a complex regulatory environment for employees and employers alike. \nDuring this webinar\, we will also explore the impact of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act which expands the rules surrounding HSAs in certain circumstances\, as well as review some proposed changes that were not included in the final law. \nThe webinar will address the below topics: \n\nEligibility to contribute to an HSA\nPermissible coverage and impermissible coverage\nHSA interaction with health FSAs and HRAs\nTelemedicine and HSA eligibility\nContribution limits\nCorrecting mistakes\n\n

SUMMARY:Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and Health Benefit Plans
DESCRIPTION:Employers subject to the Federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) must provide job-protected leaves of absence to covered workers\, including offering protections for health care and other benefits. Although many employers understand the job protection aspect of FMLA\, protecting and maintaining employee health care benefits during FMLA leave can be just as\, if not more\, challenging. During this one-hour refresher\, the Regulatory and Legislative Strategy team will be partnering with Brown & Brown’s Strategic Non-Medical Solutions Absence Consulting team to review and answer commonly asked questions\, such as: \n\nWhat employers are subject to FMLA?\nWhat employees are eligible for FMLA?\nUnder what circumstances can employees take job-protected FMLA leave?\nWhat are the job and group health plan protections provided under FMLA?\nHow does job-protected leave affect welfare benefits other than group health plans?\nWhat steps can an employer take to avoid administration pitfalls during and after an FMLA leave?

SUMMARY:Fringe Benefits: Compliance Considerations
DESCRIPTION:Under the Internal Revenue Code (IRC)\, all compensation and benefits received by an employee from their employer are considered taxable unless an exclusion applies. Many employers are aware that health benefits\, such as health insurance coverage\, can be provided to employees on a non-taxable basis\, but may not know that the IRS provides other avenues for employees to receive tax-exempt benefits in the form of “qualified fringe benefits.” \nFringe benefits are a category of compensation/benefits provided by employers to employees in addition to their regular wages. Examples of this may include assistance programs or other non-monetary benefits that in some cases qualify for favorable tax treatment under the IRC.\nAlthough many employers wish to offer these types of additional benefits to employees\, navigating the tax implications and potential requirements of these plans can be challenging. \nDuring this one-hour refresher\, the Regulatory and Legislative Strategy Group will review many considerations and address commonly asked questions related to some fringe benefits including life and disability plans\, commuter benefits\, lifestyle spending accounts (LSAs) and more. The team will also address funding arrangements for fringe benefits and their connection to ERISA and COBRA. \n
