A loss<\/span>–<\/span>sensitive customer hired Brown & Brown as <\/span>its <\/span>broker and<\/span> requested<\/span> the team <\/span>participates<\/span> in triannual claim reviews.<\/span> In preparation for the first <\/span>review<\/span>, Brown & Brown <\/span>analyzed the<\/span> large national carrier\u2019s online system for the selection of open <\/span>workers\u2019 <\/span>compensation claims identified for the review. <\/span>Using this <\/span>information<\/span>, Brown & Brown obtained <\/span>an understanding of the claim<\/span> and<\/span> develop<\/span>ed<\/span> an aggressive action plan that would <\/span>help <\/span>bring <\/span>it <\/span>to resolution. Brown & Brown\u2019s review revealed misallocated charges<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

Charges for independent medical evaluations and any associated charges were being incorrectly accounted for as a medical expense rather than an allocated loss adjustment expense (ALAE).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The carrier was engaged to address its payment practices, as they were not up to the national council and state bureau standards.
